Ranj Pillai was first elected as a Member of the Yukon Legislative Assembly representing the riding of Porter Creek South and was appointed as Deputy Premier, Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources, Minister of Economic Development, and Minister responsible for the Yukon Development Corporation and the Yukon Energy Corporation.
In 2021, Ranj Pillai was re-elected as the Member for Porter Creek South and was appointed Minister of Economic Development, Minister of Tourism and Culture, Minister responsible for Yukon Housing Corporation, Minister Responsible for Yukon Liquor Corporation and Minister responsible for Yukon Lottery Commission.
In 2023, Ranj was acclaimed as leader of the Yukon Liberal Party by the Liberal Party executive and was sworn in to office as the 10th Premier of the Yukon.
Ranj previously sat as a Whitehorse City Councillor from 2009 to 2012 and while on council, he spearheaded the first anti-racism and discrimination bylaw North of 60. In addition, he helped bring the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada to Whitehorse and was awarded the 2011 Yukon Tourism Champion Award for his efforts in this work.
After his time as a councillor, Ranj worked as the Vice President of Business Development at Northern Vision Development LP and in 2015, became the Executive Director of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations Government.
Pillai sat as a Whitehorse City Councillor from 2009 to 2012. During his tenure, he spearheaded the first anti-racism and discrimination bylaw North of 60.
