The first Session of the 35th Yukon Legislative Assembly kicked off on Monday. The Honourable Angélique Bernard, Commissioner of Yukon, delivered the Speech from the Throne, which had a strong focus on a collaborative approach going forward.
Highlights of the Speech include:
- continuing to provide COVID-19 support programs for as long as they are needed;
- the Great Yukon Summer Campaign;
- the new universal early childhood education program; and
- expanding housing options across the continuum.

Mayo-Tatchun MLA Jeremy Harper was elected as Speaker by Members of the Legislative Assembly and he began his new role with a moving prayer. Congratulations to MLA Harper!
Tributes this week acknowledged Sexual Assault Awareness/Prevention Month, National Nursing Week, Yukon Francophonie Day, and celebrated Joella Hogan, owner of The Yukon Soaps Company, who was recently awarded one of the inaugural Indigenous Innovation Initiative grants from Grand Challenges Canada.
On Thursday, Premier Silver tabled a revised 2021-2022 Budget. Following debate, we passed our first confidence vote on the Budget, with the support of the Yukon New Democrat Caucus.
