Dear Riverdale South residents,
The Riverdale Community Association (RCA) recently hosted an innovative community engagement event – Riverdale Dragon’s Den. This event saw residents pitch ideas for community projects to the RCA, which had some funds they wanted to use to support projects to enhance our neighborhood and came up with this fun and inclusive way to hear from the community. The Dragons included RCA President Niki Dennault, Mayor Dan Curtis, Liberal MLA for Riverdale North Nils Clarke, and myself, Liberal MLA for Riverdale South, but all financial decisions were made by the RCA executive. Community members successfully pitched eight projects to be partially funded and supported by the RCA:
- A work bee to help clean up dead wood from our Riverdale trails;
- An information session for the community on restorative practices;
- The installation of two bear aware signs at trailheads in Riverdale;
- A food truck fair;
- A disc golf course;
- A bike park for young riders;
- A berry patch along the Millennium Trail; and
- A youth worker at the Heart of Riverdale Community Centre.
Riverdale Dragon’s Den was tremendously successful and demonstrated the vibrant community spirit of Riverdale residents. Thanks to the RCA, my fellow dragons, all the project leaders who pitched ideas, and Grey Mountain Primary School for hosting the event. I look forward to these initiatives coming to life in our neighborhood.
The Run for Mom was a huge success again this year, raising a total of $47,000 for breast health for Yukoners. Thanks to all those who came out to run, walk, bike and board around the Millennium Trail and offer their support.
Over the summer, I look forward to meeting with you and hearing from my neighbours. I would love to attend as many events as possible in Riverdale South over the coming months, so please let me know what you have going on. We also plan to host an event in Riverdale later in the summer. Stay tuned for details and more information on my new website.
Sincerely,
Tracy-Anne McPhee
MLA for Riverdale South
