WHITEHORSE – On behalf of the Yukon Liberal Caucus, Premier Ranj Pillai, MLA for Porter Creek South; Health and Social Services and Justice Minister Tracy-Anne McPhee, MLA for Riverdale South; and Minister of Energy, Mines, and Resources, and Tourism and Culture John Streicker, MLA for Mount Lorne-Southern Lakes made the following statement marking Queer Yukon’s 10th Annual Pride Festival:
“The Yukon Liberal Caucus would like to extend congratulations to Queer Yukon for organizing and hosting ten years of Yukon Pride. Queer Yukon’s events this year in Dawson City, Watson Lake, and Whitehorse continue to be a celebration of diversity, equality, and the unyielding spirit of acceptance that defines our territory.
“Pride holds immense significance as it serves as a powerful platform to honour and support 2SLGBTQIA+ community members, their allies, and their achievements. Pride has become a colourful manifestation of love, unity, and respect, and it stands as a testament to the values that define our territory.
“We are so proud that the Yukon Liberal Caucus will participate in the City of Whitehorse’s Pride Parade, walking shoulder to shoulder with our 2SLGBTQIA+ family, friends, and allies. Our caucus believes in the fundamental principles of equality and justice, and the importance of advocating for the rights and well-being of all Yukoners, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Our participation in Pride symbolizes our caucus’ and our government’s commitment to creating a society where everyone can thrive and live authentically.
“We applaud the efforts of Queer Yukon’s organizers, volunteers, and community members who worked so hard to make these events a resounding success. Your dedication to promoting inclusivity and fostering a welcoming environment for all is truly commendable. Your passion and unwavering commitment continue to inspire us all and make a positive impact on the lives of individuals within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and beyond.
“To the Yukon’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community members: your courage, resilience, and determination serve as a constant reminder of the importance of embracing diversity and standing up for what is right. We are grateful for your contributions to the Yukon, and we stand firmly beside you in the pursuit of equality and justice.
“As we reflect on the excitement surrounding Queer Yukon’s 10th Annual Pride Festival, let us carry its spirit throughout the year. Our caucus commits to continuing to foster a community that values and celebrates diversity in all its forms and we will remain committed to advocating for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, promoting inclusive policies and laws, and working collaboratively with all Yukoners to build a brighter and more inclusive future.
“Once again, congratulations to Queer Yukon and all those involved in ten years of Yukon Pride! May the joy we experience during these festivals inspire us all to continue promoting equality for all. Love is love!
“Happy Pride!”
