WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Liberal Caucus wishes to extend thanks on behalf of all Yukoners to members of the Ukrainian Canadian Association of the Yukon (UCAY) and participants in UCAY’s second Yukon to Ukraine Mission.
Members of UCAY Yukon to Ukraine recently returned from delivering medical supplies and other necessities to Ukraine during and Russia’s brutal and unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine. The Yukon Liberal Caucus unequivocally condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and supports Ukraine in its fundamental right to self-defence as a peaceful, independent, and democratic country.
On June 15, Yukoners Donna Reimchen and Lesia Hnatiw embarked on UCAY Yukon to Ukraine’s second trip to deliver critical medical supplies to the Yuzhnoukrains’k Municipal Hospital in the Mykolaiv Raion, and defensive items for military front lines via the mayor of Chortkiv, Ukraine. Many of these items were donated by Yukoners, Yukon businesses, and by Yukon Health.
“On behalf of all Yukoners, I warmly welcome the safe return of members of the UCAY Yukon to Ukraine Mission back to Whitehorse,” said Premier Ranj Pillai. “We celebrate your dedication and commitment to building ties between the Yukon and Ukraine and ensuring that Ukrainians feel the support of all Yukoners as they face the day-to-day realities of Russia’s brutal and unprovoked war of aggression,” added the Premier.
Premier Pillai also congratulated UCAY President Jeff Sloychuk for being named one of the 50 Canadian Fellows of Ukraine by the International Charitable Foundation UDoNation.
In 2022, the Yukon Liberal Government established the Ukrainian Family Support Desk to provide assistance and resources to Ukrainians who have been impacted by the invasion and are seeking safe haven in the Yukon.
“Слава Україні!” concluded Premier Pillai.
