April 21, 2023, WHITEHORSE – Today Premier Ranj Pillai offered congratulations on behalf of the Yukon Liberal Government to Consul General Arlene T. Magno on their appointment as Consul General of the Philippines for British Columbia, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories.
“The Yukon shares a special relationship with the Philippines and is proud to have a strong, vibrant Filipino community. Our governments see opportunity in continued Yukon-Philippine cooperation on matters related to immigration, labour, and trade, as well as advancing people-to-people and cultural ties between our communities,” said Premier Pillai.
“In recent years, our work with the Philippine Consulate in Vancouver has led to exciting initiatives in areas such as immigration,” said Pillai. “I am pleased with the work to date formalizing our relationship through regular officials-level contact, the Consulate’s outreach to the Filipino diaspora in the Yukon, and the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Employment and Protection of Filipinos under the Yukon Nominee Program last March,” the Premier added.
Premier Pillai invited Consul General Magno to visit the Yukon when the opportunity allows and looks forward to their upcoming meeting on May 8.
