Members of the Liberal Caucus were hard at work this past summer advancing on the commitments we made to Yukoners.
This is a good time for our territory as the economy is doing well, Yukoners are working and investment in the territory is high.
Much of our work is reflected in the busy legislative agenda set for the fall sitting and we look forward to a productive session. Some of the major bills set to move through the Legislative Assembly include:
New Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act
We promised to improve the amount of information available to Yukoners and this bill demonstrates our work in action.
This bill has been designed to increase government transparency, while protecting personal information held by government.
New Societies Act
We’ve heard from Yukoners they want clear rules for the creation and operation of societies registered in Yukon.
This bill is also intended to make the requirements for societies less arduous. Societies do important work in our territory and the paperwork required by the government should not take away from their work.
New Coroners Act
This will modernize old, out of date legislation.
New Lobbyist Registration Act
This bill would create, for the first time, requirements for businesses and groups lobbying Ministers, MLAs and public servants to register under defined circumstances.
We campaigned on an open and transparent government and we believe the public should know who is meeting with government for lobbying purposes.
New Electoral District Boundaries Act
We look forward to a robust conversation in the Legislative Assembly on recommendations from the Electoral District Boundaries Commission.
Equality of Spouses Statute Law Amendment Act
This bill includes amendments to various acts to change gender-specific language to language inclusive of all genders and sexual orientation.
We appreciate the time taken by all Yukoners who participated in various engagements on these topics. Your input has been vital to the creation of our legislative proposals.
